Alan Waters

Alan returned to NZ only 6 years ago at the invitation of a major Auckland art gallery. Prior to that he lived in England and Australia for 30 years where he furthered his studies in Art and Design.

Alan's long dedication to his art has resulted in countless achievements and successes in many competitions, articles in newspapers and in the prestigious art publications 'The Australian Artist' and 'Craft Arts International'.
The NZ public and art collectors generally have been consistently amazed by the extraordinary mastery of his preferred beautiful but unpredictable medium, watercolour. However works in other mediums also clearly demonstrate this same mastery.
Very few artists have used watercolours so successfully in both traditional and contemporary ways.
'Idea' is the essential ingredient vibrating throughout all his work. People simply do not believe the versatility of his concepts and design. One work might use colour combinations which are reminiscent of a Japanese woodblock print, while another stunning contemporary work will intrigue the viewer with suggestions of surreal tendencies.
He has also been told many times that he paints the largest watercolours in the southern hemisphere and this fact alone constantly astounds all those who view his work.

Alan's paintings truly have to be seen to be believed. Viewers are invited to investigate further and judge for themselves - he is sure you will not be disappointed.
